Biography
Judge Dean P. Morzone KC has served on the District Court of Queensland, based in Cairns, since 2014. He also holds commissions in the Planning and Environment Court and the Childrens Court of Queensland.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Master of Laws, including a major in advanced planning. Before his judicial appointment, he practised as a solicitor for two years, served as a Judge's Associate, and practised as a barrister for 20 years, including two years as King's Counsel. His practice focused on commercial litigation, building and construction, planning law, and alternative dispute resolution.
Judge Morzone is also active in legal education, especially advocacy. He is an adjunct professor at the College of Business, Law and Governance at James Cook University and a trainer at the Australian Advocacy Institute. He is a mentor to JurisTechne and has a keen interest in the ethical and responsible use of AI in advocacy and courts.
