Details
President Stilgoe OAM, of the Land Court of Queensland, will examine the key factors that inform whether a mining lease should be approved or rejected, with a focus on air quality, dust impacts, greenhouse gas emissions and human rights. Her Honour will explore how decision-makers balance economic benefits against environmental and social risks, including impacts on climate obligations and the rights of affected populations. Drawing on relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, the presentation will highlight the complexities involved in assessing these competing interests.

Keynote Speaker 6: President Stilgoe OAM | Land Court of Queensland
Biography
President Stilgoe was appointed as President of the Land Court of Queensland in May 2024 after joining as a judicial Member in 2017 and serving as Acting President since May 2023.
Before joining the Land Court, she was the first ADR Registrar to the Planning and Environment Court of Queensland in 2007 to 2009. President Stilgoe introduced court facilitated mediation to that jurisdiction.
In 2009 she was appointed as a Member of the newly established Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal and subsequently, as a Senior Member in 2012.
President Stilgoe was pivotal in introducing innovative and effective ADR processes during her time with both Tribunals. Her contributions to ADR were recognised in 2013 when she was awarded an OAM.
