Dr. K. Emma Knowland is a Program Manager and Program Scientist in the Earth Science Division at NASA Headquarters, where she leads Tropospheric Composition research and serves as Program Scientist for key atmospheric missions and networks, including TEMPO and SAGE III/ISS. With a Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences from the University of Edinburgh, her extensive research background focuses on atmospheric composition modeling, data assimilation, and trace gas transport. Prior to joining NASA HQ in 2025, she spent nearly a decade as a research scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, most notably leading air quality forecasting initiatives. Through her leadership, Dr. Knowland guides the integrated observing systems—spanning satellite, airborne, ground-based data and modeling —that are fundamental to understanding global atmospheric chemistry and air quality.
