Biography

Dr Bronwyn King AO is a former radiation oncologist turned global public health leader, renowned for transforming bold ideas into worldwide movements. Her expertise spans healthy indoor air, tobacco control, cancer prevention, sustainable finance, and leadership across the health sector. In 2012, she founded Tobacco Free Portfolios, the NGO behind a groundbreaking movement that has united more than 200 global financial institutions representing over US$18 trillion, now committed to tobacco‑free finance. Her TEDxSydney talk has inspired more than three million viewers. Dr King is now spearheading international action on Healthy Indoor Air, an overlooked public health challenge with major health and economic implications. In 2025, she convened the inaugural UN General Assembly high‑level side event dedicated to healthy indoor air and co‑founded Air Club, a fast‑growing global community of air quality advocates. A former elite swimmer who represented Australia, Dr King served as Team Doctor for the Australian Swimming Team. She is Chair of Medical Indemnity Protection Society. Her leadership has been widely recognised, including appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia and receipt of the WHO Director‑General’s Special Award.
