Details

Fire smoke is no longer a seasonal anomaly. Across Australia and New Zealand, communities are increasingly affected by smoke from bushfires, planned burns, hazard reduction activities and winter solid fuel heating. These events create complex air quality, health, regulatory and communication challenges. This half-day CASANZ conference workshop will explore how smoke exposure is estimated, interpreted and communicated, and how exposure science can support better decision making across policy, regulation, public health and community response. Developed by the Biomass Burning Special Interest Group, the workshop brings together perspectives from modelling, monitoring, exposure assessment, public health, government response and community communication. It combines technical presentations with discussion, case studies, planned interactive activities and structured synthesis.
