Biography

Dr Masrur Ahmed is an AI scientist and climate and atmospheric researcher with extensive experience applying machine learning, and deep learning to environmental challenges. He currently serves as a Scientist in Climate and Atmospheric Research Branch at the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, where he develops AI-based approaches for air quality forecasting, emission inventory development, and environmental decision support. His expertise spans spatiotemporal modelling, interpretable machine learning, deep learning, data fusion, and predictive analytics, with applications in PM2.5 forecasting, emissions estimation, sensor correction, and environmental risk assessment. He has contributed to advanced modelling frameworks that integrate environmental observations, meteorological information, and spatial datasets to improve the accuracy and usability of air quality and emissions analysis. Prior to joining government research, he held research positions at the University of Melbourne and the University of Southern Queensland, where he worked on hydrological prediction, climate-related modelling, and water demand assessment. Dr Ahmed holds a PhD in Applied Artificial Intelligence from the University of Southern Queensland. His research focuses on developing robust, scalable, and policy-relevant AI solutions for air quality management, emissions reduction, and environmental sustainability.
